Lower the sensor into your tank

The sensor cable goes down to the bottom of the tank. It's waterproof and measures water pressure to give an accurate depth reading.

Common questions

Do I need internet to use the dashboard?

No. The dashboard works over your local WiFi network — so as long as your phone and the monitor are connected to the same WiFi, it works without an active internet connection. For WhatsApp alerts to reach you, both your home WiFi network and your phone will need internet connectivity at the time the alert is sent. Don't have home WiFi yet? What happens during load shedding?

The monitor shuts down with the power and comes back up automatically when power is restored — whether that's from the grid, a generator, an inverter, or a solar backup. No intervention needed. It picks up monitoring exactly where it left off.

Does it work with any tank — JoJo, concrete, steel, fibreglass?

Yes. The sensor goes to the bottom of the tank and measures water pressure — it doesn't matter what the tank is made of. It works with JoJo tanks, concrete reservoirs, steel tanks, fibreglass tanks, and underground storage. The only requirement is that the sensor cable can reach the bottom of the tank.

How does it send WhatsApp messages?

The monitor uses a free third-party WhatsApp notification service to send alerts directly to one registered phone number. Setup takes about two minutes — you register your number once in the Realheyi Settings tab, and from that point alerts go straight to your WhatsApp whenever a threshold is crossed. No ongoing cost, no subscription.

My tank is far from the house. Will the WiFi reach?

The monitor needs to be within range of your WiFi router or access point. If your tank is in a pump house near the homestead, it's likely fine. If the tank is further out, you may need a WiFi extender or outdoor access point — an inexpensive addition and we'll advise what's needed for your specific layout. We also have long-range wireless solutions available that can reach up to 3km from the homestead — completely wire-free, no trenching required.

Can I monitor more than one tank?

Yes — one monitor per tank, each completely independent, with its own dashboard tab on your phone. Name them whatever makes sense: "Main JoJo," "Field Reservoir," "Cattle Trough Feed." Multi-unit pricing is available on request. And when you're ready to scale up, we have upgrade paths that bring all your devices into one combined platform.

Can you help me automate my borehole?

Yes — borehole automation is one of our core specialities, and it works hand-in-hand with tank monitoring. The tank monitor tells you what's in the tank; borehole automation goes further by controlling the pump itself based on what the sensor reads.

Is the sensor safe inside my drinking water tank?

The sensor is submersible with a stainless steel wetted surface — the same type of sensor used in industrial and municipal water monitoring worldwide. We recommend confirming suitability with your water authority or health official if the tank feeds a potable water supply without further treatment.
